Are you planning to apply?

That's great news! But make sure you tick all the following boxes before applying:

  • must be an EU citizen
  • know 2 official EU languages (one of which should probably be English, French, Spanish, Italian or German – based on last year’s results)
  • have at least a Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • looking for a stimulating and challenging career
  • ambitious and wish to contribute to the success of the European institutions
  • want to work in the public service

The best news is - NO work experience is required!

What will the selection process look like?

1. TWO PART registration process:

  • The first round will ask you to list all the languages that you know. Then, EPSO will count the results to determine the top 5 languages stated by applicants.
  • The second round will then ask you to select a Language 1 (any of the 24 official EU languages) and a Language 2 (will need to be one of the top 5 languages and different to your Language 1 choice). These language choices will determine what language you'll have to complete certain tests and stages of the competition. This is also when the full application form will need to be completed - usually in your chosen Language 2.

2. Pre-Selection Phase:
Will consist of four computer-based tests – Verbal Reasoning TestNumerical Reasoning TestAbstract Reasoning Test and Situational Judgement Test.

3. Intermediate Test Round:
Will consist of an E-tray Exercise.

4. Assessment Centre:
Will take place in Brussels and comprise of a Motivational InterviewCase StudyGroup Exercise, Competency Based Interview and Oral Presentation. To find out more about what to expect at an EPSO Assessment Centre view our FREE Introduction to the EPSO Assessment Centre webinar.

How to get ready for this competition

At this stage, you should focus on which languages you'll choose to undertake the competition in. This can be a bit of a strategic decision so take the time to think about the best options for you.

Then it's time to start preparing for the pre-selection tests. The tests are not hard. Anyone can get all the answers correct if given enough time. It’s the strict time limits that make it difficult and challenging. Consistent and regular practice over an extended period of time is the key to training your brain to react quickly and effectively to these types of tasks.
