Your path to a successful EPSO application

7 Essential Tips

I am confident you can achieve your goal of building a rewarding EU career. Right from the start, you can boost your chances of success by paying attention to the details and submitting a well-prepared application. During my time as an advisor to the EPSO Selection Boards, I often saw applications rejected because they missed crucial elements needed to pass the eligibility checks. To avoid this, follow these straightforward tips:

  1. Read the Notice of Competition, and all of its annexes, carefully, thoroughly, and repeatedly. This advice may seem overly simple, but you would be surprised how many people do not read the Notice of Competition. I cannot put enough emphasis on this most simple piece of advice. Highlight essential information such as deadlines, eligibility criteria, and job descriptions.
  2. Choose the right domain. Select the field that best matches your qualifications and professional experience. Avoid choosing a domain based solely on the number of successful candidates sought.
  3. Showcase your qualifications and experience: Ensure you mention all of your qualifications and professional experience. Remember: once you have validated your application, it can no longer be amended.
  4. Pay attention to detail: Write in a clear and convincing way, using the terminology from the NoC. Double-check all parts of your application to ensure they are accurate and complete.
  5. Manage your deadlines efficiently: Plan ahead to draft a quality application and submit it well in advance of the deadline. Use calendars and reminders to stay organised and on top of important dates.
  6. Prepare and upload your supporting documents: Compile and upload all necessary evidence within the deadline specified in the NoC. Ensure all documents are properly certified and meet EPSO requirements.
  7. Stay motivated and confident... although this can be understandably difficult at times. Create a good support network for yourself - study groups, forums and mentors. Use a final checklist to ensure you have covered all necessary aspects of the application process.

Remember, this is only the first stage of the EPSO selection process, so it is important to have a strong start and then stay persistent. I warmly recommend that you equally read the advice and guidance of my fellow trainers.
