EPSO AST3 Communication | FRMCQ Practice Questions
This set of field-related questions has been developed for the EPSO/AST/157/25 Communication competition. They are based directly on the Notice of Competition and its Annexes, which define the qualifications, relevant professional experience, and typical duties expected of successful candidates. The questions aim to reflect the technical and professional knowledge required in each of the three profiles: Graphic Design and Visual Content Production, Social Media and Digital Communication, and Webmaster.
Graphic design and visual content production
Questions focus on applied technical knowledge in an EU institutional context: design principles, colour theory, accessibility, Adobe Creative Suite proficiency, and preparing visuals for print and web. Branding and marketing concepts are included to show how design supports institutional communication. Emphasis is on tested, practice-based technique rather than subjective aesthetics.
Social media and digital communication
Questions cover the practical and strategic aspects of managing institutional social media in line with EU communication priorities. They reflect tasks such as content planning and creation, running and optimising campaigns, monitoring performance, and managing online communities. Candidates are also expected to understand compliance requirements under EU law, including GDPR, the Digital Services Act, and accessibility standards, as well as to demonstrate the ability to respond to crises and disinformation. This combination of creative, technical, and analytical skills is essential for ensuring effective, transparent, and accountable institutional communication online.
Webmaster
Questions assess readiness for the technical, analytical and compliance duties of an AST3 Webmaster within the Institutions: managing complex CMS (e.g. Drupal, WordPress), ensuring WCAG 2.1 accessibility and GDPR-compliant data handling, optimising performance and reliability, and applying mobile-first responsive design. Overlaps are intentional (e.g. accessibility and SEO; security and API work) to reflect collaborative workflows with designers, communication specialists and IT teams.
