Which EPSO profile fits best for me

Hello everyone,

I’m currently preparing my profile selection for EPSO and I would really appreciate some guidance. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Language Technologies and a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence and with 5 months experience as a Cybersecurity trainee in a EU Institution.

I am hesitating between these profiles: a) IT Security, b) Information and Communication Technology and c) Political Affairs / EU Policies.

Given my mix of technical skills, cybersecurity experience and policy/compliance work, which profile would be the most advantageous and strategic to choose? I’ve noticed that a lot of EU Policies roles increasingly ask for digital/tech/cybersecurity. knowledge, so I’m wondering if that path would benefit me more or it is more strategic to take an opportunity in the future. If you don't recommend Political affairs/EU policies, which of the other two do you recommend most (BTW, I don't see many published positions related to IT, that's why I have this di/tri-lemma).

I also have two additional questions:

1) Can an institution invite you for interviews for more than one profile, e.g. both EU Policies and ICT, if your competencies match?

2) If I pass EPSO under one profile (EU Policies), can I still be selected for a position that is of another profile (e.g. IT), or are institutions limited strictly to the profile under which you were successful?

Thank you very much for any insights!

To receive tailored career guidance based on your academic and professional background, I recommend our Application Coaching service.

As for your two additional questions:

1) You can apply to several EPSO profiles (provided eligibility rules allow it). If you’re on multiple reserve lists, different institutions may contact you separately under each profile. If you are on only one reserve list, invitations will only come for that profile.

2) You are placed on a reserve list for one specific profile, and institutions recruit from the reserve list that matches their vacancy.
