elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 09/20/2016 - 16:57

Hi, I have heard there are over 300 candidates for the AD7 and only over 100 for the AD9. When does EPSO expect to release the results? And, any guidance as to the necessary marks to progress to the next stage in both competitions?

Many thanks,

Are you referring to the AD/323/16 competition? And what do you mean exactly?

maarten91105 Mon, 11/14/2016 - 18:15

The results of the CBT are in.

Anyone else got the passmark ?

Yes, the AD 323 16

elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 09/20/2016 - 18:00

Yes, the AD 323 16 competition.

I'm told only over 300 candidates sit for ad7, and over 100 sit for ad9. I just sat the ad7 And the ad9 next tuesday -they hold examinations until the 30th of september.Being such a small number of candidates, in theory it should imply lower marks required (they too accept 3 times more the required number of applicants for the second part of the test) and they should require less time to release the marks. Do we know anyting? grades? dates?

Many thanks

Has anybody already taken the CBT? Was it difficult? I will do mine on Saturday...

I have, its as difficult as

elisa_encinar_89910 Wed, 09/21/2016 - 13:56

I have, its as difficult as the rest of AD tests. There are no differences. Good Luck!

Is it possible to know

pourgos_90016 Tue, 09/27/2016 - 08:03

Is it possible to know officially how many persons had the computer based test for the two positions after the 30th of September?

Hi. I've taken the test today

Massimiliano Taranto Wed, 09/28/2016 - 11:46

Hi. I've taken the test today and I can say that the difficult is the same as the AD5 tests. Verbal was easy adn even numerical except for one question. The Abstract was a little bit complicated. I think that i've done 2 errors. Let's see what will happen :) Anyway I asked to the security staff if the number of partecipants was high or low and he said very low.

Hi, all,

marie.popa_89607 Tue, 10/04/2016 - 09:32

Hi all.

MM Tue, 10/04/2016 - 16:02

Hi all.

For the information I have seen posted in some EU competitions portal, the number of applications for AD7 1 was 855 and for AD72 350. For AD9 was 315.

Good luck to you all

Thanks for the info!

elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 10/04/2016 - 16:11

Thanks for the info!

What I fear is that, despite the low number of candidates, the kind of relevance they'll give to experience. I am graduated in law and criminology, have worked for 14 years, ten of which for the public administration. Of these, part were for the Foreign Office, but I only spend around 8 or 9 months working for a semi-public entity which had coercitive capacity, the SGAE, in its legal services department as an attorney trainee back then. I'm specialised in property and eu competition law. I've almost always worked in administrative roles and team leading.

What I fear due to the precision of their Talent Screener is that they only admit candidates who are already working as EU investigators. However, the number of candidates doesnt seem to leave them with much choice. Do we know their degree of flexibility?

To Elisa,

Bart Tue, 02/07/2017 - 13:32

To Elisa,

did you make it to the next level?

I meant Intellectual property

elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 10/04/2016 - 16:12

I meant Intellectual property law-ooops

MM Tue, 10/04/2016 - 17:41

There are probably not many internal applications for AD7. Probably, the most interesting post is AD9 team leaders within OLAF so in AD9 probably they will be less flexible in the Talent screener...

Let's see what happens.

Hello everybody.

marchi Wed, 10/05/2016 - 10:03

Hello everybody.

I took my CBT last Thursday in Rome and to be really honest, I found it somewhat challenging.

About the number of applicants that have actually taken the test,... I haven't got the slightest clue! All I can say is that the day I went, the room was packed (which obviously doesn't rellay mean a thing) but I got the impression that there was a high percentage of participation. Usually, the results are given after a month or so but this depends on the type of competition. Procedures can sometimes be lengthy but like Elisa rightfully said, the lower the number of participants, IN THEORY the quicker it ought to take the examiners in checking the tests. Let's just hope so and keep our fingers crossed. Wishing you all the best of luck.

Hello everybody, any news

Hello everybody, any news regarding the CBT results?

Thanks in advance and good luck!!!

Hello everyone

bartderoover_91103 Mon, 11/14/2016 - 16:19

Hello everyone

I just got the results back today. I don't think it will be sufficient to get selected for the next phase of the concours. Did pass though. Wondering how everyone else did in the tests. May I wish everyone succes in the further developments in teh race to become an Olaf inspector.

Best of luck to you all

elisa_encinar_89910 Mon, 11/14/2016 - 16:41

I got AD9:  37 out of 40.

AD7: 30 out of 40.

How much relevance do they give to our applications? We were really few candidates.

Hi everyone,

pourgos_90016 Mon, 11/14/2016 - 17:21

Hi everyone,

I just got my results as well.

32 out of 40 for AD9 posts. I have heart that maybe by tommorow or the day after EPSO will announce the results for the competitions.

Good luck to you all.

Hi Christos ,

tt Tue, 11/15/2016 - 13:08

Hi Christos ,

What do you mean by "will announce the results for the competition"? Do you mean they will inform straight forward about the results of the talent screener and then who is invited to the Evaluation Centre and who is not ?

It will probably take them

elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 11/15/2016 - 14:40

It will probably take them way longer. For the Auditors 2016 it took them longer than a month to send notifications to the candidates on exaination of their applications.

As I understand only the

pourgos_90016 Mon, 11/14/2016 - 17:30

As I understand only the first 90 candidates (for AD9) will be evaluated as far as talent screening is concerned so as the 30 selected will proceed to the assessment center.

Hello. I got my results too.

Massimiliano Taranto Mon, 11/14/2016 - 18:07

Hello. I got my results too. 36/40 AD7 :) I hope it will be enough for the next stage :) Also I have experience in Income Revenue Agency and VAT Fradu so I think Talent Screen should not be a problem....fingers crossed anyway :)

Hello,  25/40 (AD7 - option 2

Skyler Mon, 11/14/2016 - 21:15

Hello,  25/40 (AD7 - option 2) for me. I don't think it will be enough for the next stage... anyway, just for the record :), I work with DGFIP (French Directorate of Finances - e.g. on-site audits to combat tax evasion). Congratulations to all of you!

I am worried about the

elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 11/15/2016 - 15:36

I am worried about the application.

I have about 6.5 years in Public service/Government with Administrative and organizational and another 4.41 years for an NGO, administrative and financial functions. The other 3 years administrative functions in private organizations such as banks. However on Type of Experience I got it wrong, and instead of saying Administrative -what I indicate in nature of duties- I say the business sector -Arts and Culture, education, Spain's foreign office, etc.

My experience in antifraud is the SGAE, but instead of saying the amount of months properly, I only say 4 months. And I don't clarify that it investigates Piracy and Fraudulent Copies and their distribution.  The Board of Amissions would have to look it up.

I have however graduated in both Law and Criminology -the latter is perhaps a plus.

Anyhow, in the ad7  I only scored 30, what might be too little and in AD 9 a 37 but my application is unlikely to qualify.

I hope they give more relevance to grades than to applications -given we are only 350 candidates, I don't think many will have both the experience and the grades. And I hope they value the Criminology degree since they don’t require specific studies and it does seem to set me apart from the rest.

Anyway it was a long shot. For the Auditors exams they have been super strict on the applications, but there were 6000 candidates. With only 350 candidates, they probably cant be that strict.

To Elisa,

bartderoover_91103 Tue, 11/15/2016 - 16:51

To Elisa,

I hope that the EPSO people select the candidates using the terms and conditions that they published to start with. I.e. x amount of years of experience in a job as a police officer, customs and or any other enforcement agency. It seems that a lot of candidates do not meet up to those conditions.

A lot of candidates or not, I just hope them select fairly and strict.

I wish the best of luck to all though.

To Bart:

elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 11/15/2016 - 17:07

To Bart:

Yes they will be strict, starting with the marks. Noone below 30. If they need X number of candidates, they will have to adjust the rest of their requirements to achieving the number of candidates they need.

But alway, always, the marks come first.

why call it a PASS MARK then?

bartderoover_91103 Tue, 11/15/2016 - 19:29

why call it a PASS MARK then?

These are Intelligence

elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 11/15/2016 - 19:59

These are Intelligence quotient tests. A pass means you are average. However, they establish a minimum marks requirement. The lowest I have seen was in 2014 or 2015 and was a 29 out of 40. Due to the competition, they need very smart people. Someone average or below is not enough.

What's your definition of

marchi Tue, 11/15/2016 - 20:55

What's your definition of smart?

I don't think my personal

elisa_encinar_89910 Tue, 11/15/2016 - 21:11

I don't think my personal definition is relevant to the results of these tests. Thus, I will just make a brief description: Those who make themselves plus a bit of how they were born. Education has a lot to do with it, but more relevant is experience and the choices the individual makes. Genes only affect us so much: improvement can be spectacular over generations.  The opportunities we are given, even more.

The tests we are going through do describe how smart we are, but in a rather contrived manner. It does not include how we react or how we feel. Our resilience or the level of hardship -being born, for example, in Ethiopia is not at all like being born in New York. However, these tests bring us all to the same standards, no matter our history, origin or background.

Take it easy,

I specify that my profile is

Massimiliano Taranto Tue, 11/15/2016 - 21:27

I specify that my profile is AD7/2. Hoping that 36 will be good enough to be invited at the Assesment phase :) PhD in tax law, more than 500hrs in VAT frauds inspections and Customs And Excises Post Degree Course....and a II Level Master in European Law.....also tax lawyer......we will see if the whole six years f relevant experience must be in the P.A..

Well done on the high score

lpanvino_91130 Wed, 11/16/2016 - 00:14

Well done on the high score Massimiliano but it doesnt sound like you have enough relevant work experience...500 hours-roughly three months when they're asking for 6 years...and the notice of completion clearly states that they have to be acquired in ms customs services or law enforcement agencies or eu institutions investigating frauds or irregularities against eu or national financial interest. It seems clear that the whole six years they are referring are in special bodies of p.a..

No I mean that I have 3 years

Massimiliano Taranto Wed, 11/16/2016 - 06:08

No I mean that I have 3 years in Inland Revenue Agency as a Tax Officer in VAT matters and fraud and also more than 500hrs of accesses on the spot for antinfraud purposes. We will see what will happen :)

22 years in Customs, 20 of

22 years in Customs, 20 of which at Investigation. The last 4 as Assistant Head Investigation Officer and Spokesman of my Department. This is my first try and I wander whether I will be selected for the next step.

pourgos_90016 Wed, 11/16/2016 - 17:50

Sorry about that. Is my score low? 32 out of 40.

Not low but middle range.

Massimiliano Taranto Wed, 11/16/2016 - 18:19

Not low but middle range.

16 years federal police

bartderoover_91103 Wed, 11/16/2016 - 20:03

16 years federal police investigating economical and financial crimes and fraud, also coordinating international investigations. My first try as well for the AD7 (1) position. Hope the experience will weigh trough.

The marks are the most

elisa_encinar_89910 Wed, 11/16/2016 - 21:02

The marks are the most important just to get selected. Even those who do get selected -marks 29 or 30 minimum- have to get through a situational test during the second stage, meaning no aggressive or resented individuals who backlash will get through. AND they have to be perfectly fluent in one of the official langugages.

Dear Elisa at this point of

lpanvino_91130 Wed, 11/16/2016 - 21:37

At this point of competition as you can read in the message you received in your account ( point 2 and 3 of notice) what will be evaluated first by epso is eligibility of each candidate starting from top level mark. If the applicant is considered eligible then the MQT mark will be retanined. If the applicant is not considered eligible simply its application and MQT mark will be discarded....in other word if one is not eligible then he could have had 40 out of 40 is out.....epso will continue to verify eligibility until the threshold is reached. But if the number of eligible candidates is below the threshold epso will not evaluate or change eligibility requirements set forth in the notice. So the minimum mark required could be as well 25 as well 34 and depend on level of eligible candidates.

Thank you for the clear reply

Bart Wed, 11/16/2016 - 22:02

Thank you for the clear reply. Has it ever happened that there the threshold wasn't reached?

JOHN1 Wed, 12/28/2016 - 17:28

Given that the indicative date (as per the EPSO website) for the case study is beginning March 2017 (for both AD7 & AD9), would it be realistic to say that the invitations to the talent screener should, normally, be sent in January (first 2 weeks)?

Are there any views on that?

Hi mm,

JOHN1 Mon, 01/02/2017 - 10:30

Hi mm,

Normally,  the Assessment Center  is a separate test before the AC.

On the EPSO website there is a date (for both AD7 & AD9) for the case study as follows: ''beginning March 2017(indicative)''

Do you have an idea as to when the invitations to the talent screener will be released/sent?
