What is this competition about?
This AD7-level competition is designed to recruit highly qualified lawyer-linguists/legal revisers in the following languages:
- Danish
- German
- English
- Estonian
- Croatian
- Dutch
- Romanian
- Slovenian
Although the language of the competition varies, the structure is the same across all profiles: you’ll be tested on legal knowledge, linguistic skills, revision ability, and reasoning skills.
What does the selection process look like?
Testing phase
- Reasoning Tests – verbal, numerical, and abstract reasoning
- EU Law Test – multiple-choice questions (in your Language 1)
- Language Comprehension Tests – reading-based questions in Language 2 and/or 3
- Revision Test – themain opportunity to demonstrate your revising and translating skills
Each test has a specific weighting. The Revision Test and EU Law Test count for 80% of your total score.

How to prepare effectively
Start with a plan: Understand which components of the exam will be most challenging for you, and build a study plan around that.
Practice with sample questions: Our workshops and practice materials are tailored for this competition.
Train like it’s the real thing: Get used to the test format and pressure of timed exams.
We've created a sample preparation plan for the last 2 weeks. Use this sample prep plan below as your starting point, adjust it to fit your schedule, follow it through, and you’ll be well-prepared to face the exams with confidence!
Week 1
Day 1: General Preparation
- Review the EU law test syllabus and key EU principles (1 hour).
- Familiarise with the structure and format of all tests/exams (30 minutes).
Day 2-3: Reasoning Skills Practice
- Participate in a reasoning skills workshop (counts towards practice with the simulations)
Day 4: Reasoning Practice
- Practise reasoning questions (60 minutes).
- Review and understand solutions for reasoning questions (30 minutes).
Day 5: EU Law Test Preparation
- Study EU legal framework topics (1 hour).
- Practise EU law multiple-choice questions (30 minutes).
Day 6-7: Language Comprehension
- Practise Language Comprehension test (30 minutes)
Week 2
Day 1: Revision Test Preparation
- Practise revising sample legal texts (1.5 hours).
- Or participate in a Revision Test Workshop
Day 2: Language Comprehension Review
- Practise Language comprehension tests and review explanations (30 minutes).
Day 3: Exam Mode Practice
- Take a full-length EU law test in exam mode (60 minutes).
Day 4: Exam Mode Practice
- Take full-length reasoning test in exam mode (48 minutes)
Day 5: Review and Reflection
- Review all practice test results and note areas for improvement (1 hour).
Day 6: Final Review
Focus on weaker areas identified (1 hour).
Quick review of key topics across all tests (1.5 hours).
One day before the exam
- 15-30 minutes each of reasoning skills and EU Law / practice or review
- 30 minutes legal text revision
- Do the practice as early in the day as possible, after that, rest your brain
- Relaxation: whatever it is - yoga, hot bath, breathing exercises - do something to clear your mind and fully relax
- Eat healthy and drink plenty of water
- Avoid watching TV/movies and switch your phone to ‘Do not disturb’ early in the evening
- Get to bed as early as you can
