New EU Training Case Study and Written Test Simulations

EU Training has offered Case Study simulations with or without evaluations for many years now. But, you may have noticed a the brand-new tab under the Products menu: Case Study

SAME-SAME, BUT DIFFERENT

There are now THREE different case study simulations available. All are very similar, but with distinct differences at the same time. The similarities are:

  • all of these simulations can be started through your dashboard on the right-hand side, in the START NEW TEST block.
  • you can do all of these in 'practice' or 'exam' mode
  • you can retake these test simulations as many times as you like
  • all of these are available in packages that include one or two evaluations, plus maybe some MCQ practice questions too if you are purchasing a competition-specific package

Let's take a look at the differences now.

  1. CASE STUDY SIMULATION

First, we begin with the tried and true Case Study Simulation. This one is based on the classic EPSO selection process, a.k.a. pre-2023. This was the classic set up for a case study before the selection process overhaul:

  • You will get the documents when you 'Start test'.
  • You will then have 90 minutes to analyse the documents and write a response to the question or task assigned.
  • EU Training Case Study Simulations are available in 5 languages:
    • English -18
    • French - 5
    • German - 1
    • Italian  - 1
    • Spanish  - 1

This Case Study Simulation is also perfect for EC Internal Competition candidates where a written test is part of the testing process.

EVALUATION: if you choose a package with Evaluation (or purchase it later separately) you'll be assessed on these four competencies: Analysis and problem-solving, Delivering quality and results, Prioritising and organising, and Communication. Evaluations are only available in English and French.

Case Studies will be evaluated up to 5 business days after the date submitted.*

  1. EPSO-STYLE CASE STUDY SIMULATION

This is a brand-new product, and we're very excited about this one! This case study simulation is based on the current EPSO selection model, a.k.a. post-2023 overhaul:

  • case study documents released 2-3 weeks before the scheduled exam date.
    • Candidates have that time to analyse, memorise and figure out priority - or at least their best guess - and to practice writing a response.
  • assignment or question received on the spot at the exam
  • 45 minutes to write a response.

The EU Training EPSO-style case study is set up exactly the same way. After purchase:

  • you'll have access to the case study documents directly in your account.
  • the case study and related documents will appear in your Dashboard on the left side in the MY CASE STUDIES block.
  • you can take your time to get to know the documents, analyse their content, etc.
  • To maximise the value of your preparation, only start in exam mode after studying the documents thoroughly. This is the way to truly simulate the real EPSO exam experience.
  • You'll have 45 minutes to write a response

EVALUATION: if you choose a package with Evaluation (or purchase it later separately) you'll be assessed on only one competency, just like EPSO does now: Written Communication Skills. Evaluations for the EPSO-style case study are only available in English.

  1. WRITTEN TEST SIMULATION

This one we created specifically for the European Commission AD5 Internal Competition. Our expert wrote this case study based on her high-level experience working at the Commission. There is one written test available at this time. According to the Notice of Competition:

  • documents and tasks are provided at the start of the exam
  • candidates have 120 minutes to analyse the documents and write their response to the assigned task

EVALUATION: if you choose a package with Evaluation (or purchase it later separately) you'll be assessed on these four competencies: Analysis and problem-solving, Delivering quality and results, Prioritising and organising, and Communication. The way you'll be assessed on the actual exam is a little bit different, and not explicitly put in the terms of these EPSO competencies, but very closely related.

Evaluations for the Written Test are only available in English.

Case Studies will be evaluated up to 5 business days after the date submitted.*

  1. COMING SOON

We don't want to give too much away about this very exciting new EPSO-style case study simulation product... But when EPSO finally gets back up and running again, we will be offering Exam-Specific Case Study Simulations. More on that later, watch this space.
