AD5 Translators

Hi, I am considering applying to the AD5 Translator competition, but am worried about the lack of resources. The language test only has one sample, the Translations are the same ones used for Lawyer Linguists (and I doubt they will be necessarily of a legal nature), the revision sample is from English into Gaellic, so impossible for non speakers to discerns. Will EU Training provide or can give advice on how to prepare for these? Thanks

EU Training doesn’t offer

EU Training doesn’t offer translation tests, but as a very good alternative, the www.europa.eu website publishes all public documents, most of them in 24 official languages. This ranges from press releases, Official Journals, policies, judgements of the Court etc. You select a text in your source language and translate it into the target language. Then, you compare your translation to the document in your target language.

For the rest of the tests, you can find our relevant packages at the link below. Language knowledge test practice questions are coming soon!

What employment prospects can

What employment prospects can a written text translator have in the age of artificial intelligence? I don't really understand this competition.

As a freelance translator

As a freelance translator myself (literary and technical), AIs are tools which can give you a "taste" of a written text, but they don't understand the text. Cultural nuances cannot be easily reduced to coding and if someone wants precision, one has to go to a human translator. Yes, we are losing clients to people who don't want to pay us... but we're gaining also clients who are not satisfied with the quality of machine translation!

I would like to ask if there

I would like to ask if there is enough time for someone to prepare for the AD5 Translator competition, since the dead line of submitting the application is 14th of January 2025 and of the supporting documents is 10th of April 2025. Is there any estimated guess of the month, in which will take place the exams?

Good evening,

I would like to be assessed in which language it would be wiser to translate to, to spanish. Having no preference between french and english, is french a better option given the fact there are probably less people choosing that option? Or is, if all stars are aligned and I were lucky enough to pass inshallah, the ratio of translators needed from french to spanish to low to risk being less eligible once in the waiting list?

Thank you for any information or advice on this!
