OLAF INVESTIGATORS AD7 & AD9

Any estimations regarding timelines for the next steps? including invitations for the talent screeners?

Many thanks!

Lulutu Sat, 01/14/2017 - 18:44

Hi, I would say invitations for TS in February (just a guess!) - estimating one month before the Case study. It was the case for the Audit competition, if my undestanding is correct...

GEORGE_new Sun, 01/15/2017 - 15:26

Hi, many thanks for your reply!
I can see in EPSO that the Assessment Center for Auditors AD7 is around 2.5 months after the case study, and for Auditors AD5 the AC is from 3 days up to more than 2 months after the case study; any estimations regarding timelines of the AC for OLAF Investigators AD7 & AD9 in relation to the case study? It is noted that in EPSO the case study for OLAF Investigators AD7 & AD9 is scheduled for beggining March 2017 (indicative).

Thank you very much!

Bart Mon, 02/06/2017 - 13:33

Who else is in for the Talent Screener???? I assume they grade you for the talent screener on what you admitted while applicating...

Let me know who else passed all the requirements of the notice of competition...

Did not score super high on the cbt though.

Hope to hear from you all

Dear all,

marchi Wed, 02/08/2017 - 12:03

Dear all,

Unfortunately I have not been selected for the next step and before I carry on I’d like to wish those who have, the very best of luck.

The reason I was given for not passing was the following: “You do not have at least 6 years' relevant professional experience since obtaining your diploma of 4 years giving access to the competition.” I actually graduated in 2011 which means excluded because only 5 years post graduate work experience, but with over 14 years relevant experience prior to that date.

I find it really difficult and, to be quite honest, shocking to believe that the selection did not in fact take into consideration years of professional experience prior to the date in which I graduated.

When I initially applied for the competition, I instinctively interpreted the sentence “..at least 4 years attested by a diploma followed by a minimum of 6 years’ relevant professional experience …” meaning that one required a diploma plus 6 years of experience (considering years of professional experience before and after graduation). “Followed by” also means “furthermore”, “as well as” or “plus” and doesn’t necessarily have to mean “after which”. Well, my interpretation might have been wrong, so I have to admit that it fooled me, but it definitely fooled Andras Beneth when during the WEBINAR for the OLAF Investigators competition , it was clearly oultined that eligibility also meant, amongst other things, having one of the diplomas  - i.e. 3, 4, years - plus the number of years of professional experience needed, which together with the years of the diploma would add up to 10. (please see 2016 EPSO Investigators Exams EPSO/AD/323/16 and EPSO/AD/324/16) Information Webcast recording, section ELIGIBILITY “The difference is that if you have a 4 year diploma then six years of professional experience. If you have a 3 year degree then you need seven years of experience. The idea is that these two: the diploma and the experience add up to 10 years.”

And I personally think that it goes without saying! Well, we were both wrong apparently!

In other words, just for argument’s sake: if we were to compare a person who graduates before getting a job, then starts working and after six years applies for the position (assuming that we are talking about relevant work experience) with an individual who maybe has 20 years working experience in the requested professional field, after 16 years  graduates whilst working and applies for the same position…..technically speaking EPSO is basically saying “The first case yes. Of the second, what he / she did before the graduation simply doesn’t interest us at all. No 6 years professional relevant experience after the date of graduation? Sorry, not for us!”.

Just to sum up the facts, the second would be automatically turned down because the years after graduation are not enough to be taken into consideration in order to apply? If this is a joke, I don’t find it at all funny.

I find it extremely hard to believe that for such specialist competitions one would not take into account work experience prior to one’s graduation. What’s even worse is that one is completely ignoring particular implicit values (which ought to be highly evaluated) such as strong determination, ambition, perseverance and good will in obtaining a degree whilst working with all the difficulties that a normal student would possibly not encounter when solely attending university).

Once again, Good luck to the remaining candidates.

this really sucks. Doesn't really justify the system they use. I'm a or better I was a working student as well when I graduated, only that was over six years ago.

MIKE Wed, 02/08/2017 - 15:59

The system is indeed not very fair; I was rejected from the next step of AD9 for the same reason: not enough years of experience after obtaining the diploma - they did not take into account 10 full years of very relevant experience as I gained it before the award of my diploma!!what can I say!

All the best to all!

To cudnadwisia1919

I m not sure I undestood your question. If you are talking about the thresoldd form cbt Epso has just communicate each candidate  if he has or not been admitted to the TS. In this case the 60% of internal experience I  don't understand how can be relevant. The only criteria took in account by the selection board had been the diploma and six years of professional experienze after.

Pleased to be helpful if you are more precise.

Hello,

Any further estimations regarding timelines for the next steps?

Many thanks!

Marchi and Mike,

alessandromarini@hotmail.com Wed, 03/08/2017 - 19:56

Marchi and Mike,

If it can be of any consolation, I'm in your same situation. In the test I scored 37 out of 40.

37!! Best score I have ever reached in EPSO concours and nonetheless I didn't even make to talent screener, as I had only 5 and half years experience in the public administration (the relevant one, the rest of my working experience was as lawyer and in banking). For six months, I missed one of the greatest opportunities in my life. I swear I wanted to cry.

Maybe should I have lied in my application and add up those missing six months? I thought the six years experience was indicative and not a strict threshold counted by the day.

Now I learned the lesson.Furthermore, I had answered only four of the eleven questions in the talent screening section (again, because I was genuinely reporting my experience without filling sections with fanciful chores I never carried out) and probably I would not have passed it.

I shall definitely take closer attention to these requirements in the future competions before struggling with verbal, numerical and abstract tests!

Good luck to everybody!

Hi,

JOHN_1 Wed, 05/10/2017 - 21:10

Hi,

We received today the invitations for the Assessment Centre (for AD7), after we sat earlier today for the case study and the Englsh language test, which is eliminatory. So, it means that they've marked the English language test and sent invitations only to the candidates who achieved the pass mark?

Thanks!

To John_1

Bart Wed, 05/10/2017 - 21:44

To John_1

I hope that you scored the passmark though, but I got an invitation to the AC before I went to the Case Study. Therefore the eliminatory English language test could still be eliminatory. But if you came this far, the language test shouldn't be a problem.

What day did you get for the AC? I heard it's spread out over June and July.

Greetings

Bart

To Bart,

JOHN_1 Thu, 05/11/2017 - 13:26

To Bart,

Thank you very much for the response!

The date I got is 6 July. I was wondering though, what if a candidate did not score the passmark: are they gonna spend money for her/his travel expenses, and make the candidate prepare, travel, etc. for nothing? especially since they know who did pass the language test and who didn't. One detail is that they sent the invitations yesterday, after the end of the case study and the language test.

any ideas?

Many thanks!

John_1

Bart Thu, 05/11/2017 - 14:04

John_1

please note that in my case I received the invitation for the AC around 10 am while my CS was at 1 pm.  I don't know what they try to reach with this. Hopefully those who didn't pass for second language will be notified asap, since these results are just one click away.

Jamess Mon, 06/19/2017 - 19:04

Hi all,

I just noticed (see attached link) that the number of Temporary Agents currently working for OLAF (57) is higher than the vacancy posts available for both competitions (AD 7 and AD9). Considering that it's a practice within  EU institutions to use  Competions to regularize TA staff (they become Officials) I'm not not sure the rest of the candidats will have their chance/opportunity...

I am reading most of your posts here, could you give me an advice regarding CBT tests that will be taken place in Brussels. I am for AD7 customs but It is my first try un this Epso exams i am kind of nervous because not sure how i Will performance in computer test. Any advice? Are CBT tests same difficult as those of Andras BANETH book? I have 10 years experience and journalism degree plus master in EU affairs Hope this Will be enough...
