AST-SC/03/15 - Has anyone taken the test yet?

Please share your opinion about the difficulty level of each section!

m.mortou@gmail.com Tue, 03/31/2015 - 07:56

Thank you for your detailed answer! It is the first time I'm taking the tests and I'm quite anxious for the procedure!
Is there any tip for me ?????

It seems you did very well! I hope good enough to pass to next level!;)

E.K. Tue, 03/31/2015 - 22:24

I took the test in Sofia and I have to say that I was very disappointed with the quality of the "Accuracy and Precision" questions. The problem was not in the monitor. The monitor was big, new and with excellent resolution. The problem was the bad quality and the bad resolution of the questions. I was also looking from 10 cm distance and I have to say that there were a few questions where it was virtually impossible to notice whether there was a mistake in the persons names (for example between Lillian and Lilllan). The "l" and "i" letters were all smeared. The Italic style wasn't making it harder - it was making it impossible, so I just played lottery to some questions. I have read that other people have experienced the same problem before in different countries, but since this was my first exam I was hoping that they might be wrong. Well...they weren't.

Thank you very much for the valuable information you give us! Ear plugs during the exams? Are they allowed?

E.K. Wed, 04/01/2015 - 09:58

Yes. Ear plugs are allowed and are very helpful. I did put them before I started and took them off after I finished. It is better to use them, because the employees at the test center walk amongst the computers to check up the people doing tests and it is a bit distracting.

stan81 Wed, 04/01/2015 - 18:47

I took alsothe exam today ! indeed the images fom accuracy and precison test were not so great! I managed to answer only 34/40. Does the numerical test contribute to the general score?

m.mortou@gmail.com Wed, 04/01/2015 - 21:39

No it doesn't. As far as you achieved 4/10 it doesn't count to the general score!

m.mortou@gmail.com Wed, 04/01/2015 - 21:40

Do you consider the level of difficulty in the exams equal to those here?

stan81 Sun, 04/05/2015 - 20:46

from my point of view all the tests from this web epso preparation platform are harder than the epso exams which I sustained few days ago. for instance in the abstract,accuracy... and organising epso tests I managed to finish all of them with results better than the percentage I obtained in the epostraining tests! what was your percentage epo answering ?

Do you mean the tests we took in order to have the link for the application validated?

simka.s Tue, 04/07/2015 - 17:39

I took it today and have to say that it is very easy. I had some VR questions from last years AD5, still was not sure about correct answers..
NR is not difficult, simple calculations, much easier than AD level! Some preparations ( tests and books) and you should be fine.
Accuracy and precision was as expected, tricky with the time constraints.
Organizing and prioritizing is easy as well, the same format as tests from Orseu+ Eutraining.
My only concern is eligibility for the competition, as dont have 3 years experience and My Bachelor and Master are not in the domain of administrative assistant as it simply does not exist in my country...

I would be interested in sharing answers from VR as I guess will get some of those questions again at this years AD5.

Hi simka.s,

I have same concerns as you about eligibility,so we will see... What do you think about VR, any problems with translation of the questions, what is your first language?

m.mortou@gmail.com Wed, 04/08/2015 - 20:22

OmG! I feel so anxious.. I'm taking the test next week for the first time. Wish you luck with the eligibility guys..
Who knows.. maybe some day we'll be colleagues!!

How about abstract... Do you consider the abstract exercises from eutraining close to those of the exam?

simka.s Thu, 04/09/2015 - 14:04

I did VR in Slovak ;-)
AR form eutraining is a bit different form real exam, more difficult I would say

m.mortou@gmail.com Thu, 04/09/2015 - 23:47

Do you consider Orseu or Eutraining to be more close to the style and difficulty level of the real exams?

Julius Tue, 04/14/2015 - 17:45

Hi, I have taken the test yesterday and I have to say it was much easier than I expected. Though I believe that could be because I was preparing from the Ultimate Test Book 2015 for administrators and tests in it are much more complicated in my opinion. I did ok with verbal, had doubts about 4 answers, but I hope I got them right. I took my time with math test as I knew I only need to get 4 answers right so I guessed the last 2 as was out of time by then, but I think I'll be ok. Abstract was a pleasant surprise, as I mentioned, much easier than in the book, so I managed to do all of them in time and had doubts only about 1 of them. Accuracy and precicion is my main concern as I managed only 35 questions and of course there is no guarantee all of them are correct. Prioritising test was easy as there's a lot of time for it so I guess if these test were as easy for everyone as they were for me, the winners will be the ones, who managed to answer all 40 precision questions and most of them correct.

milio Thu, 04/16/2015 - 07:44

Hello everyone, I have also taken the test yesterday. And I have to say I'm really happy about my performance - almost half of Verbal reasoning questions were from a test for an European Parliament assistant. Math was good and as it doesn't count as long as you have 4 answers right, no concerns there. Abstract was easy, and as Julius I also had some doubts about only 1. And I managed to do all the Accuracy and precision :) It was quite hard as the quality of pictures was REALLY BAD, but still I'm proud. Prioritising was very easy and took me only half of time. But as the test was so easy I guess that only candidates with a VERY HIGH score will get to the assessment center :)

Louise Thu, 04/16/2015 - 10:47

Hello everybody,
I also took the test yesterday. My feelings are similar to milio and I totally agree with the Julius's and milio's comments. VR was fine, with many questions coming from AST3 and last year's AD competition. For my domain (finance) you need to have 5/10 in NR. AR was fine with one guess. In accuracy I managed to answer all the questions having already brought the screen very close to me. I remember in one case it was quite difficult to discern 0 from o, as the letters were very small. Prioritising was the last part, you still need to be focused, as every question worths 1.667 points. Concentration will help you to avoid stupid mistakes. In overall it was easy but in some cases you need to be carefull in order to avoid misinterpreting or losing important details from the tables. Above, bear in mind that you should also comply with the qualification and experience criteria as described in the notice of the competition. Not having the right degree subject or not having enoughor irrelevant experience may exclude you from AC even if you have the best scores! Good luck to those having the exam today afternoon or tomorrow morning and fingers crossed for the outcome!

Louise Thu, 04/16/2015 - 10:58

Hello Mortou,
Regarding your question about the most suitable tool for the exam. I think that eutraining is sufficient for AST or SC level, but not for AD. However, I consider ORSEU more difficult than eutraining although outside the spirit of the exam. But, if for example in an orseu accuracy test you get 32/40 in accuracy for sure in the exam you will score at least that (according to my past experience). I hope this helps.

Louise Thu, 04/16/2015 - 11:07

Exhaustive practice not only with eutraining but also with other tools available in the market! That is the secret!

Vic Thu, 04/16/2015 - 11:31

LouiseExhaustive practice not only with eutraining but also with other tools available in the market! That is the secret!

Do you know how many tests you solve so to have such result on accuracy?

Louise Thu, 04/16/2015 - 11:37

Hello Vic,
Last year for accuracy I had tried only eutraining and orseu and I got 80% having answered 38 out of 40 questions and the last 4 by chance. This year, I tried also other online tools and I practiced more than 10,000 ! It sounds incredible. But let us wait till the outcome. Following that I noticed that timing is important, in one minute you should have answered 7 to 8 questions, in three minutes (half of time), I would advise to have answered 23 to 25 questions, two minutes before the end you should not have more than 12 - 13 remaining. In the end you could have about 15 to 20 secs to review any marked questions.

Eugenia Thu, 04/16/2015 - 12:25

I have just taken it and I'm afraid I'm not as happy as the majority. In the accuracy test I had only answerd 22 questions when I had 1 minute left.

The VR wasn't very difficult, in the numerical I had no problem and in AR I had some doubts with 2 questions but the rest were OK.
I admit prioritising was easy but as I was dissapointed with the accuracy test I'm not sure of my performance there.

One question for those who have taken the test other times: Is the level of the questions similar to other years or was it easier this time?

Eugenia Thu, 04/16/2015 - 12:41

By the way, I forgot to say that I am almost sure that one of the questions in the prioritising had no right answer, has anyone found any question like this? And is it worth to say anything to EPSO?

m.mortou@gmail.com Thu, 04/16/2015 - 15:21

Hello guys. I finally took the test. I found Vr to be very difficult. Numericals ok. Abstract had almost nothing to do with the ones Eutraining uses in the exercises. I answered only 7/10. Accuracy ok. Managed to answer 35/40 worth really bad image quality. At Prioritising I also tried for 6 minutes to answer a question that I'm sure that had no correct answer to choose. I don't know. Where should we say something?

Thanks vic. Eugenia I now read the rules of the competition and they give you the right to request the neutralization of a question If you believed that it was mistaken or impossible to be solved. I already sent them an email.

simka.s Thu, 04/16/2015 - 15:55

What was the questions you want to complain about? I dont remember any question impossible to solve...

m.mortou@gmail.com Thu, 04/16/2015 - 16:05

I'm not sure we all had the same questions. But it had to do with "I take the ferry from a place to an other.... trip lasts 1 h 5 m. It is Sunday. What is the maximum time I can spend there. That is 10 minutes from the Port. So the first train was leaving at 8:20. And the last train would return at 15 and something....

Julius Thu, 04/16/2015 - 19:43

I think one of prioritising questions I got was also without a correct answer or maybe I just missed it. It was about 4 specialists and their weekly schedule and question was "what is the earliest time when X and Y can meet for an hour". And in 5 provided answers I couldn't see one with appropriate hours. So I just chose what seemed logically closest to correct answer. We'll see how it pans out. Or we won't, since we dont get the correct answers anyway :) In any case, I wish everyone who prepared their ass off for these tests the best of luck. You deserve to get your dream job.

Hello everybody,
I did my test last week and I can say Eutraining and "The ultimate eu test book" have helped me a lot.
Now my question is: does anybody know how long we should wait to see the names of candidates passed to the next step?

Good luck!

dfg Tue, 04/21/2015 - 16:48

As the notice say 5 weeks from the last test date for about 1 month

Fingers crossed!

I sent a request to review one of the questions in my test, well I've received an answer: "The result of this analysis showed that the items were valid and fully met the underlying strict quality criteria."

So I was wrong. I hope the results are out soon.

Vic Sun, 05/31/2015 - 13:10

I sent 2 questions for review and got a message that one of them will be neutralized.

malfas1 Sun, 05/31/2015 - 20:37

I had the same problem for one of the situations on the prioritising test. It asked for the earliest time to schedule a meeting between specialists and none of the suggested times were right (at least in my view). I found it strange because it was the only question that I really thought it was impossible. I don't remember what type of specialists they were. I think one or two of them were interns?

Did you contact epso about the question? I don't know if it's better to wait for the test results now, and then ask them about it. Or if it's even worth it.

Julius Mon, 06/01/2015 - 08:48

Yes, interns were definitely in the mix. I think they were all doctors and they had outgoing meetings besides their daily routines, so when I couldn't find timeframe where both specialists were free, I chose time when one was free and another had outgoing meetings. It seemed logical to me given the circumstances. I have not complained however as it was my first try in EPSO competitions and I was kind of testing the waters. But if someone else confirms my suspicions, maybe we should. Does that sound familiar to you malfas1?

malfas1 Mon, 06/01/2015 - 12:55

Hi Julius :)

This morning I sent a request to review the question, through here - http://europa.eu/epso/about/contact/index_en.htm, on the "Candidate Contact Service" and this was their reply:

"Dear Ms Torres,

Thank you for your request that should have been sent within 10 calendar days to be counted from the date following the day on which you sat your test (see the General Rules).

Yours Sincerely,

Luc GILLIS"

lol is that sarcasm there? So even if the question is invalid, we can't do anything more about it? Doesn't sound very fair. Especially since the results haven't even come out.

malfas1 Mon, 06/01/2015 - 19:03

But I'm not going to do or say anything more about it (and it's not like I could do something since I was the one who didn't know the rules), because the CBTs didn't go well for me so there's very little chance I pass them. I guess now I won't forget we only have 10 days to ask to review a question, after we do the tests.

http://www.eutraining.eu/forum_topic/alias-astsc0315_has_anyone_taken_th...

Hi everybody,

I'll have a test for EPSO/AST-SC/04/15 the next week and by reading your comments I'm concerned about this "low resolution images" which I read of. I had EPSO tests in the past and I'm familiar with VR, NR and AB but I have no clue on tests where the poor quality of the images can play a negative role. Would anybody be so kind to tell me to which kind of test such tests have to do? Where can I find information on how many VR, NR, AR will there be?

Also on the note of the competition they didn't specify which kind of test we will be called to pass. What was your source of information?

Many thanks in advance!

Alex

Alex Wed, 07/08/2015 - 22:52

Ok I've got it

http://www.epsotraining.eu/demo.html

In the demo I don't know why the conference room with 70 seats is suitable for a meeting of 80 people. Does anyone know the reason behind that's answer is correct?

AlexIn the demo I don't know why the conference room with 70 seats is suitable for a meeting of 80 people. Does anyone know the reason behind that's answer is correct?

The question is "You want to book a conference facility for 80 people. Which venue will you rule out to book straightaway?" N.B. "Rule out".

Colorado Hall is the only one of the venues n the list that seats less than 80 people, so you can immediately rule it out as you need space for 80 people. Thus Colorado Hall is the correct answer.

JaGyGy Thu, 07/09/2015 - 08:11

In any case you don't have to worry about the "Organizing&Prioritizing" tests because they are not part of the CBT for the competition "EPSO/AST-SC/04/15" which is the one you are taking part in.

I don't understand what you mean by "Also on the note of the competition they didn't specify which kind of test we will be called to pass."

They are all clearly stated there:

Verbal reasoning - Language 1 - 20 questions - 35 min
Numerical reasoning - Language 1 - 10 questions - 20 min
Abstract reasoning - Language 1 - 10 questions - 10 min
