Applications opened today, 20 July, for the 2023 EUIPO, grade AD6, EPSO selection exams. This article highlights the most relevant parts of EPSO's Notice of Competition.

On 20 July 2023, the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) opened applications for the second Notice of Competition to be released this year. The aim of this competition is to select Adminstrators in the field of intellectual property, grade AD6. Those candidates who succeed and reach the highest scores on the EPSO selection exams will end up on the Reserve List from which EUIPO will recruit staff.

EU Training will host a live webcast to guide EPSO candidates through the ins and outs of EPSO's Notice of Competition. The 2023 EUIPO AD6 EPSO Exams Info Webcast will take place on Monday, 24 July at 12:30PM (Brussels time / CEST).

Please read the Notice of Competition's Point 2 "what duties can I expect to perform" section for details on the main roles covered by each field. These will also be summarised in the INFO WEBCAST.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates will need to meet the following general criteria:

  • Have EU citizenship
  • Fulfilled any military service requirements
  • Meet the character requirements for the duties concerned

Language Requirements

  • Have knowledge of at least TWO official EU languages:
    • Language 1: have a thorough knowledge (minimum C1 level) of one of the 24 official EU languages.
    • Language 2: Have a good command (minimum B2 level) of English, French, German, Italian or Spanish.

Qualifications & Work Experience:

SELECTION PROCESS

Competition Phases

1. APPLICATION

Candidates applying to this competition must submit their application online through the EPSO website by 29 August 2023 at 12:00 noon / Brussels time (CEST). The application can be filled out in any of the 24 official languages of the EU.

Then, the next step is for candidates to upload, through their EPSO accounts, scanned copies of documents that support the declarations made in their applications. This has to be done latest by 2 October 2023 at 12:00 noon / Brussels time (CEST).

2. TESTS

All the candidates who have validated their applications on time will be invited to sit a series of tests:

a) REASONING TESTS

These tests are done in your chosen Language 1 and are pass/fail, which means it will not count towards the final overall score.

b) FIELD-RELATED MCQ Test

IMPORTANT: Candidates must reach the pass mark and this score does count toward the final overall score.

The EPSO field-related MCQ will be specific to the field of intellectual property and will be taken in your chosen Language 2.

c) CASE STUDY

The EPSO Case Study is used to assess how well a candidate communicates in writing. The case study is taken in Language 2 and the scoring is 0/10 with pass mark 5/10

The Selection Board will assess and score the case studies and verify candidates' scores on the CBT and MCQ tests. The board will then create a ranking of candidates based on their overall scores as follows:

  • MCQ score weighted 70%
  • Case study score weighted 30%
  • [MCQ score x 70%] + [Case Study score x 3 x 30%] = FINAL SCORE

3. ELIGIBILITY CHECK

The Selection Board will determine a candidate's eligibility by comparing the declarations made by the candidate in the application with the supporting documents uploaded by the candidate to their EPSO account.

Candidates' eligibilty will be checked in descending order of the overall score ranking until the number of positions available is reached.

4. RESERVE LIST

The EPSO Selection Board will draw up the Reserve List of eligible candidates. The candidates who made it on to the Reserve List will be notified directly by EPSO. The Reserve List will then be made available to the recruiting services of EUIPO.
