Hi,
I have a question w.r.t. the salary calculator.
The second questions states "Have you been based in the city of your EU job for more than 6 months". That seems somewhat confusing: I have been working in Brussels for over 9 years now, but I am not living in Brussels (I am commuting from the Walloon Region). I noticed that the Yes/No reply to this question has a significant impact on the final outcome of the salary calculation. I think this has to do with the 16% expat remuneration. However, in my case the answer to the question would be "no, I have not been based in Brussels for more than 6 months" (my home base is the Walloon Region), which would grant me the 16% premium, although I can hardly argue that I am an expat.
Long story short: unless I am mistaken, I guess the question should be "Have you based in the country (not city) of your EU job for more than 6 months". If the EU were to give you 16% just for not living in the city, that'd make an incentive (also for locals) to move out of the city where they'd be working as an EU officer. I don't think that's the EU's intention...
Warm regards,
Geert
Dear Geert,
Dear Geert,
Thank you very much for this feedback. You are absolutely correct. We will change the text from city to country.
