the EPSO Lawyer-Linguist Translation Test demands a unique combination of linguistic mastery, legal expertise, and precision.

The EPSO (European Personnel Selection Office) Lawyer-Linguist Translation Test is an examination that plays a pivotal role in the recruitment of legal professionals within the European Union institutions. This specialised test is designed to identify individuals with exceptional language skills and legal acumen, as they are tasked with the critical responsibility of translating complex legal documents accurately and effectively across multiple European languages.

Lawyer linguist exams have two translations of legal texts as part of the competition and these are done without the use of a dictionary. The translations will be evaluated by the Selection Board members with the use of a scoring grid. This is of course confidential, but based on our experience and insights, we created our own suggested sample grid to help you better prepare, so you know what to focus on.

The sample scoring grid is available for anyone to view in this shared Google worksheet. You can navigate it right here too, just drag the slide bars left/right and up/down.
