Function Groups

Function groups refer to the AD (Administrator) or Assistant (AST) function groups for CAST competitions, which are determined for each recruitment competition organised by EPSO. Within function groups, there are different grades, which represent the level in the hierarchy for Assistants and Administrators alike. The four function groups are:

  • FG I. manual and administrative support-service tasks
  • FG II. clerical or secretarial tasks, office management and other equivalent tasks
  • FG III. executive tasks, drafting, accountancy and other equivalent technical tasks
  • FG IV. administrative, advisory, linguistic and equivalent technical tasks.

Candidates can apply for several Function Groups within the same field and actually it is better to apply to more than one. For example, if a candidate applies for both FG III and FG IV and passes the FG IV test, that means they have automatically passed the FG III test as well.
